About this camp

The UCI ICS Summer Academy's Data Analytics program offers high school students an immersive, hands-on experience in the fundamental principles of data science. Participants will learn various methods and concepts, including statistical inference techniques and statistical thinking for decision-making under uncertainty. The curriculum involves working with actual datasets, such as anonymized health data, to manipulate, model, and analyze information. Students will gain practical skills in data collection, processing, summarization, visualization, and statistical modeling for prediction. The program emphasizes teamwork and interactive learning, culminating in a capstone project where students present their findings and solutions to peers, parents, and faculty. This experience provides valuable college preparation and exposure to university faculty and research labs.

What a typical day looks like

Mornings consist of lectures from UCI professors on data science methods and concepts, followed by afternoon lab sessions where students work in small teams on hands-on projects with real-world datasets, guided by graduate and undergraduate students.
